Anyone that attempt to create a site template from an existing site, and opt for including content in it, are bound to run into the 10 MB size limit on site templates. This is not much, and even a list with a couple pictures in a good resolution will exceed it.
There is however a simple solution, and that is to increase the limit by using STSADM.
The following command will increase the limit to 500 MB:
stsadm.exe -o setproperty -pn max-template-document-size -pv 500000
Creating a site template in itself is a pretty simple way to reuse a site at several locations. Please dont use this as a backup mechanism though. Also don’t make the file sizes too big, since you might get in trouble with adding the .STP file to the Site Template Gallery
